5 Signs of a Toxic Relationship According to a Psychic-Medium

Trigger Warning!!

A toxic relationship is
draining, suffocating, abusive:
mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, sexually…
and it can be
one or any combination of these aspects and more.

Things just got real huh? Good. For this topic, we need to be real with ourselves first, and then, with others. As a psychic-medium, it’s my job (which I absolutely love) to see what’s up with people. I’ve noticed something recently – many people have been asking me about toxic relationships, are they in one, why they’re happening, and what to do about them. Now, every situation and relationship is different. They have different causes, problems and solutions. Therefore, I’m writing this post for a general audience by introducing you to the 5 main signs of a toxic relationship. These are the signs I see popping up time and time again in my work as a psychic-medium.

5 Signs of a Toxic Relationship

    1. You’re there because you feel you have to be. There’s a difference between love and obligation. It’s very common to be in a situation like this (especially with family), but ask yourself: “Is this where I actually want to be?”

    2. It’s one big never ending uphill battle. If you’ve reached this point, you’ve likely tried to fix things, again, and again, and another three times after that. Ask yourself: “Is this actually working the way I want it to?”

    3. You feel stifled. You change who you are to make another person happy, while compromising your own happiness. True, relationships are work, and you want to make the other person happy. But why should it come at the expense of who you are? Ask yourself: “Who am I and what exactly do I want?

    4. You don’t feel valued. Now, I’m not talking about every once in awhile. This is a constant feeling. Relationships are give and take. The thing is, one person shouldn’t always be either give or take. In a toxic relationship you feel like your thoughts, feelings, wants and needs aren’t  taken into account. Tell yourself: “I deserve better, and it’s 110% okay for me to recognize it.” Depending on how long you’ve been in this relationship, it may take some time to convince yourself. Put yourself and any vulnerable people (ie. kids) first.

    5. You’re scared of your partner. You’re by no means the only one to feel this way. Help is out there!

This is what I suggest: contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline. They can help victims and survivors of domestic violence. Call 1-800-799-7233 or chat with an advocate on their website 24/7 and 365. They are multilingual: English, Spanish AND 200+ more available via interpretation. If you’re in or know somebody that’s in this type of situation, contact the hotline. They’ll have resources for you. They are the experts in this, not me. Follow their advice first!
