Help With Dream Interpretation?

Absolutely. That is so much fun. Let’s talk all about dreaming shall we?

What Do Dreams Actually Do?

dream-inceptionDreams are healthy for us. According to psychology, if a person is prevented from dreaming, psychological changes can occur. Now, don’t freak out and think you’re not dreaming – many people dream and simply don’t remember doing so. Now, before the scientist in me decides to upload a powerpoint on this matter, let’s turn to the aspects of dreaming you’re most interested about through your question.

First things first, think of dreams like a doorway into the depths of ‘you’.  Your dreams know you better than you know yourself. This makes them a valuable tool. Before we start to work with our dreams, we need to learn how to experience them, enjoy them and have fun with them.

Main Dream Types

There are many different types of dreams. Some of the most well-known are:

Premonitional Dreams: These are pretty much what they sound like – ‘heads up’ about a person, animal, event.

Past Lives: If you’ve previously lived on Earth before your current life, it is likely that you will have dreams of your past life/lives. In these dreams, you are a key player, and the people and locations will be familiar to you.

Spiritual Guidance: This is a dream idreamn which entities use to communicate messages to you. Remember, dreaming is like a doorway. If it’s left fully open, anyone can walk through at any given time. The same goes for spirits. If you find yourself uncomfortable around an particular entity, there is a reason for that. Make them leave, or wake yourself up and then make them leave. The bottom line here is that they’re leaving and you’re in control.  There is also something known as a ‘dream within a dream’. This occurs when Spirit or your spirit is trying very hard to make you get the message. You will realize that this is the second time you’re receiving the same information. It’s kind of like deja vu.
Nightmares: Did you think I wouldn’t mention these? Let’s see…an analogy for nightmares…ah. Nightmares are simply bad movies created by the spirit or an entity. The scenarios are usually extremely shocking – there is a message there. Don’t ignore nightmares. They allude to an urgent matter (positive or negative) that needs to be taken care of.

Recurring Dreams: These can go on for years, but generally tend to gain in frequency as an event is about to happen. Recurring Dreams tend to point to a situation that will be a major event in our lives. That’s great because in some cases, you’ll have something to look forward to while in others, it’ll be a ‘heads up’ of an outcome you might want to change.

Sleep Paralysis: Okay, so technically, not a dream. This is usually a sign that you’re not moving peacefully between the different stages of sleep. It’s the feeling of being conscious but unable to move a single muscle. It can be very terrifying. If this happens, pay close attention to the surrounding circumstances and what you were dreaming. What does it have to say about your waking life?

Intro To Dream Interpretation

layersDream interpretation takes practice. Dreams have multiple layers of meaning. In order to be able to truly understand your dreams, you need to understand your own association to things. In other words, you’re really the only person who can know for sure what your dreams mean. There are many different dream dictionaries. Choose whichever one you prefer. I like this one (this isn’t an affiliate link). Such dictionaries can help you interpret, but you have the final say. For example, perhaps in their mind electricity means luck, but it yours it’s exactly the opposite because for some reason you had a bad experience with electricity in life.  See what I’m getting at here? Everyone has their own associations and symbols.

Keep a dream journal. This is really the first basic step. In order to be able to work with your dreams, you need to remember them right? Write down everything you can remember as soon as you get up. Don’t wait, because you won’t remember the dreams later; you just think you will. Trust me on that one. As time passes, you’ll notice that you will remember your dreams more frequently. The associations and symbols will become sharper every time. Don’t bang your head against the wall if you don’t understand something right off the bat. It’ll come to you.

Lucid Dreaming

Once you’re comfortable with your dreams, and have a fairly good grasp on what they mean, you can start practicing something known as lucid dreaming. Basically, lucid dreaming means you’re aware that you’re dreaming and can control your dreams. Speaking from experience, lucid dreaming is very informative and FUN. It can be very complicated, so make sure you don’t push yourself too far or fast. Oh and one quick note, have you heard the rumor that if you die in a dream you die in real life? Yes? Okay, here’s the deal: don’t worry too much about dying in a dream, you won’t die in real life. BUT pay close attention to why that happened to you in the dream. How does it relate to your real life? Hint: it isn’t usually related to actual physical death – that is very rare.

Happy dreamin’ all!
