Do Scrying Mirrors Exist and How Do I Use Them?

Wow, wow, wow.  Awesome question and the timing couldn’t be more perfect!! Throughout history, mirrors have played multiple roles in our lives.  And yes, scrying mirrors definitely do exist.  Here is a very brief overview of some mirrors:

In the Middle East, Mirrors represent the sacredness of beauty, in whichever form it’s reflecting.  Japan sees mirrors as representations of the Sun which brings happiness and prosperity to where they hang.  In our Western culture, mirrors can be associated with both ego and vanity.  Hinduism embraces mirrors as portrayers of potential…look in to it’s depth and see the depths of your possibilities.

Scrying mirrors or Magical mirrors are considered to be a divining tool.  These mirrors are usually black in color. Think of a decorative serving plate with beveled edges that’s aesthetically appealing with a black center.  The center is black because it is thought such a glassy appearance makes it easier for the seeker to slip between the states of consciousness needed.  Practically speaking, black is easier on the eyes which allows the seeker to gaze for a longer period of time.  A scrying mirror is not simply a gazing tool.  Communication with higher realms and souls can also occur.  That means that faces can be seen.

There are several basic rules for caring for your scrying mirror:

– Don’t ever use this mirror for anything else!  This is because it is a portal and you need to be able to control what comes through and when.  Even though I’ve been doing this for years and can easily work with my mirrors, I don’t use them for anything else because nothing in life is 100% guaranteed.

– Some people say you should not allow anyone else to look through your mirror.  In my book, this is true to an extent.  Let’s face it, most of these mirrors are passed down through generations which means it’s likely multiple people have used them and will use them after you’ve gone. That’s part of the allure and beauty of this art. If one of my students wants to use a ‘student’ mirror (I prefer they bring their own), that is okay because I’m watching closely and cleanse the mirror before and after.  Sometimes they ask me to look into theirs, this is fine too.  I’ve let my mentors (yes, even I have them 😛 ) look through my mirrors, just like my students let me.  I never ask to look in someone’s mirror; it’s by invitation only.

– Keep your mirror covered when not in use. Remember the portal part? Exactly.

– Lastly but not least, charge your mirror once under a full moon.

Now, before we start, please please pleasssse remember that this is a divining and communication device.  One must treat them with respect, and if you don’t know what you’re doing, please don’t dabble with this.  Make sure you read the steps through before you attempt this. A portal is opened and you must be able to control what comes through.  If that’s not possible, the results could be dire.  If anything unexpected does occur, please let me know and I will personally assist you.

You will need: 1 scrying mirror that matches the above description

1. Place your mirror on a table.  You can lean it up against a wall or have it lying on the table with you hovering above.  These mirrors tend to get heavy so it’s not the best idea to hold them.  Make sure you choose a place that is rather empty.  You don’t want to have anything from the room reflecting back in the mirror.

2. Turn off all the light sources in the room.  Yes, your charging light on your computer counts.  You can use a candle, the moonlight, or a dim nightlight to aid it the viewing process, but don’t let it reflect back to you from the mirror.

3. Before you start, create protection around you according to your own beliefs or practices. Yes, the St. Michael prayer works well and Wiccan ones do too.  Just make sure you believe in what you’re saying and ask your angels and guides to protect you as well.

Scrying Mirrors4. Calm your mind. Once you’ve done this, start concentrating and gazing into the center of the mirror. No blinking allowed. Remember, look INTO it and not just at the surface of it.  You can either still your mind and completely clear it causing the mind to be blank and more susceptible to insights/images OR you can focus by holding only one thought in your mind.  Both work well and are fine to use. Personally, I prefer the first option.

5. Make sure you don’t strain your eyes as you look into the mirror.  Let your eyes gently focus and gently think of what you want to see in your mirror while setting the intention that you’ll see images. Then revert back to the option you’ve chosen from number 4.  Keep your eyes focused on one spot and don’t let them wander.  As always, practice makes perfect.  You’ll notice with more practice that your eyes are adjusting and you can hold your gaze and focus for longer amounts of time.

6. Eventually, your mirror may cloud over, appear milky or foggy, rippling etc.  This is usually the first indications of the first images about to appear.  Sometimes they will appear at a distance.  If that happens, you have the ability to ask them mentally to come closer.

7. Your focus will travel while you are still concentrating on one spot.  What do I mean by this?  Your focus will actually travel beyond the mirror.  In the beginning, it’s usually just a couple of feet.  This distance will grow with practice.  For example, I have the ability to see as far as I choose to see whether it be a couple, hundreds or thousands of feet.

8. Remember, I’ve been doing this for decades. If this is your first time doing this, limit yourself to five minutes.  It’s very possible for you to see visions and at the same time, it’s very possible you won’t see anything in your first attempt.  Please don’t discouraged.  Practice and you’ll improve.  You have my word on that.

Please be careful with this and have careful fun with it!  Heads up though, it can be kinda addicting.
