Ah, yes! That elusive art of asking the right question. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Phrasing questions stumps a lot of people (myself included when I started out). As you can see, it gets easier. It really does, I promise!
One might think phrasing a question is easy, or at least it should be.  It definitely can be, but there is some thought that needs to go into it before the ‘perfect’ question is developed. First off, think about what you actually want to know. For example, let’s say Jane wants to know if she will find a loving relationship. That is a very closed question; it’s a yes/no question. And quite honestly, no one really wants to hear the answer ‘no’. Would you? I wouldn’t. What people tend to want to know is how and when something will be. You feel the need to know what kind of steps would be suitable to take in such a situation. You’ll want to know about the obstacles or curveballs life throws at you that you’ll get to have fun with.  Due to that, a reading with a closed question can be tricky. Sure, you’ll get an answer but you risk it being unclear and then you’re left thinking: okay, thanks, um…hmmm what now and where do I go from here? Let’s delve right in shall we?
How To Ask Tarot Questions
Here’s what I suggest:
- Clear your mind and take some time to figure out exactly what you want to know. Remember Jane and her question about love? Her underlying goal is to see what type of love relationship is coming into her life, meaning what will be its’ qualities and obstacles, who will the person be, and is she ready for it. Now, think of how to phrase such a question. Perhaps this should be more than one question?
- Â Bounce the question/s around in your mind, play with the wording. Make sure your final question hits directly on your topic without being closed. Perhaps a starting question could be “What type of love relationship is coming into Jane’s life?” or maybe “How will Jane recognize the next individual coming into her life as a romantic partner?” What about “What steps does Jane need to take to ready herself for a romantic relationship?”
- Now play with intonation. This might surprise you, but repeat the question to yourself several times with a different intonation each time and you’ll notice that the question itself feels different each time. The vibration is different. Choose the one that feels the best.
- Â Pull out your Tarot deck (or Oracle) and focus solely on your question as you shuffle. This step is very important. We all know how our human brain is a double agent – it can be our biggest ally and our greatest enemy (sometimes even at the same time). My brain has an extraordinary knack to get me in (and luckily out of)Â trouble rather quickly. Â If you start thinking about other topics while you ask your question, the deck you’re using will tune into those as well. The results could be rather interesting. For example, Jane is pretty excited and is having trouble focusing. She wants to look her best when she meets her new love interest. The energy could sense this and she’ll get a lovely reading about the upcoming weather. Â That’s all well and good and actually quite useful information. However, it’s not the answer to the specific question Jane asked. Some people get frustrated at the cards at this point, so make sure if this does happen not to go there. [bctt tweet=”It’s not the cards: focus and ask the question again. It’s perfectly okay to have a do-over spread!”]
- Â Make sure your reading with a deck that resonates with you. This is very important. You’ll feel more confident in yourself and your intuition will flow easier. If you’re thinking that reading for yourself can be complicated those two perks are probably sounding pretty good. Just know this – reading for yourself is possible; it just takes practice. On that note, these same ‘rules’ also apply when reading for a client. Always make sure the question is answering what they want to know.
- Go easy on yourself! Every psychic, medium, reader, energy worker or healer has come across this elusive art form. We all know exactly how it feels to be frustrated. The trick is to take the frustration out of the equation and add amusement. Laugh it off! Â I guarantee you that in retrospect you’ll find this very funny. Breathe and try again. Remember my promise to you above? It does get easier.
- Â Lastly, have fun. Happy Divining!
